SL

I feel very positive about SL because it allows us to construct alternative models of the world. Inside them we can experience what it might feel like to live in a different social order. I think that by interacting in SL we can experiment with the political, economic, and social aspects of the real world and be able to draw conclusions that would help us with real world problems. However, I belief that the life’s of people in SL are never totally digital disconnected from the real world. As people step into the digital world to escape reality, they always end up forgetting that the real world and person to person interactions are much different and complex than virtual reality. By interacting in SL we learn things about our first lives which allow us to step over certain rules, play different roles, and see the entire world from a new perspective.

How Obama Did It

I think Obama’s social network campaign was amazing. Certainly a break from traditional campaign advertising. The people running Obama’s campaign were simply better at figuring out how to market online through social networks, because they’re the people who use social networks. Obama’s fans seem to be younger and more tech-savvy than McCain’s.

Social Networking

Social Networks are forms of social interaction, defined as a dynamic exchange among people, groups and institutions in contexts of complexity. Is an open system in permanent construction that involves groups that are identified with the same needs and problems and they organized to promote their resources.
In social networks we have the possibility to interact with other people, some that we don't even know in person, the system is open and goes building with what each member contributes to the network. The force of the group permits changes over the individual that otherwise could have been difficult and generates new emotional links and business relations. It is not that social networking has created some completely new form of human interaction, what it has done is to enable conversations across barriers and boundaries. We can now be a global tribe or rather tribes.
After watching the PBS investigation, I think it depicts a very accurate picture of reality. Even thou I'm computer literate i did not grow up online , so i kind of know how parents feel about the generation gap with their children. The use of computers has created a very different life style for the current youth. Their life's involves so much around technology, such as phones and computer, that they be clueless without it. The internet is definitely part of modern culture, thats why I think it is important not to totally shield children from the internet, but parents should try to be involved enough in the children life that they know what they are doing. Also, social networks like Myspace and Facebook that are based in advertising revenue should help to protect and encorage good behavior at their sites expecially with the large number of minor's.
